Antaratma (2025) Movie Full Rivew

Antaratma is a Bangladeshi romantic family drama that finally hit screens during Eid-ul-Fitr 2025, though its journey there was anything but smooth. Directed by Wajed Ali Sumon and starring Shakib Khan opposite Darshana Banik, the film attempts to weave emotional weight into a story about love, loneliness, and inner turmoil. At its core, Antaratma centres on Prothom (Shakib Khan) — a man blessed with wealth but cursed with deep internal emptiness. He lives surrounded by material comfort yet is emotionally adrift, misunderstood by nearly everyone around him — even his lover Rupkotha (Darshana Banik). The film tries to explore the loneliness behind success, the search for connection, and the fragile human heart that wants to be seen and understood.

There’s an earnest ambition here. Scenes are carefully framed and the emotional beats — especially Prothom’s moments of vulnerability — give the audience something to latch onto. Shakib Khan’s performance, as always, carries the film on his shoulders: he’s compelling and invests sincerity into Prothom’s struggle, making you feel his isolation and internal conflict even if the script doesn’t always fully support it.

Darshana Banik as Rupkotha brings charm and a grounded presence, and she does more with her screen time than the material sometimes allows. The supporting cast, including Shahed Sharif Khan and Aruna Biswas, fill out the family dynamics in a way that’s warm but occasionally surface-level.

However, the movie’s pacing and storytelling structure are uneven. Early scenes feel draggy and repetitive, circling around Prothom’s gloom without enough narrative propulsion. When emotional stakes rise, the film delivers some genuinely heartfelt moments, but these are too sparse to consistently engage.

Another challenge Antaratma faced was its release strategy. The film was completed years before but was only quietly released without the usual promotional build-up Eid films get. The teaser, songs, and trailer arrived just hours before the theatrical debut, and even the lead cast didn’t actively promote it — a rarity for a Shakib Khan movie. As a result, audience turnout was low,
leading to the film being pulled from major multiplexes like Star Cineplex after just one day.

That underwhelming theatrical run doesn’t necessarily reflect the film’s heart, but it does show how crucial buzz and marketing are — especially in a crowded Eid release schedule dominated by more commercial fare like Borbaad.

Aaryan (2025) Movie Full Rivew

The most interesting idea in Aaryan is that its villain's monologue isn't an ending, but the first chapter of his grand, pre-written story. For about 15 minutes, we're in a TV studio with Azhagar (Selvaraghavan), a washed-up writer who hijacks a live broadcast. He rants about his 5-day "serial killing story" and then immediately sets off to prove his point. There's a trace of Se7en here, with a killer obsessed with turning his twisted philosophy into a public sermon. Selvaraghavan is effective in this opening, but soon, the film has to coast on his recorded messages. This leaves the case for DCP Nambi (Vishnu Vishal), the classic workaholic cop who's so dedicated he's literally in divorce court with his wife (Maanasa Choudhary). The film quickly shifts from a whodunit to a "howdunnit" and then why. We follow Nambi connecting the dots, as Azhagar, like a more literary Jigsaw, has left a trail of pre-recorded videos to taunt the police and announce his next victims. The plot itself can feel a bit plain as Nambi just follows the trail. The "why" is the most eccentric part. Azhagar’s victims are unsung heroes (a nurse, a soldier, an activist) who society forgot. His psychotic logic is that by killing them, he'll finally make everyone recognize their value. It’s... a stretch, to say the least.Thankfully, after a draggy start, Aaryan pulls itself together
in the second half. The "how" of the murders and the ticking clock deliver some genuinely racy, interesting thrills. Vishnu Vishal carries the film well, and the finale, which traps him in the killer's story, is well-staged. Shraddah Srinath plays an effective TV host embroiled in the criminal plot. A steady thriller, albeit the social cause felt like a forced final chapter.

The Girlfriend (2025) Full Movie Rivew

The film follows Bhooma (Rashmika Mandanna), an MA student who falls for Vikram (Dheekshith Shetty). What starts as a typical college romance gradually evolves into a deeply layered exploration of love, self-realisation, and the price of setting personal boundaries.
Initially, Bhooma is the quintessentiala innocent — she’s frightened to even fight back after an accident. But over time her character transforms, she finds her voice, asserts herself against her boyfriend with conviction and boldness, and moves from feeling stuck—visibly symbolised when she’s held by tree roots—to breaking free. Rashmika beautifully captures the subtle emotional shifts, grounding Bhooma’s complex journey with nuance and conviction.Dheekshith Shetty is formidable as Vikram — the controlling, authoritative boyfriend whose love morphs into rage, then revenge when Bhooma stands up for herself. His shift from charming partner to vengeful adversary highlights his acting prowess. Meanwhile, Rao Ramesh plays an overbearing single father whose control adds another layer of pressure, and Rohini makes a short but impactful appearance that leaves a lasting mark on the narrative. At the heart of the story is the friendship between Bhooma and her friend Durga — played by Anu Emmanuel — which highlights how female bonds provide a safe space to discover oneself, beyond the gaze of the man they both love. One poignant visual — Bhooma
dropping her shawl in the climax — symbolises her transformation and emancipation from her past self. This film mirrors the realities of many young women by exposing affection disguised as control with parents and romantic partners and unveiling raw human emotions. With its emotionally powerful storytelling, director Rahul Ravindran crafts a gripping drama that doesn’t shy away from the uncomfortable truths of modern relationships.

Raayan (2024) Movie Full Review
As with his debut directorial effort, Pa. Pandi, Dhanush shows yet again that he can do solid work behind the camera as well. The world he explores this time is far removed from the warm, feel-good world of his first film. Raayan has a raw and rage-filled setting, and is populated by characters who are rugged, violent, deceptive and also vulnerable.
Raayan begins in the past when four siblings - three brothers and their new-born sister - fleeing their village and ending up in the city, where they, fortunately, end up under the care of Sekar (Selvaraghavan), a handyman in a vegetable market. The film then cuts to the present where we see that the four have grown up into individuals with distinctive characteristics. The youngest brother Manickam (Kalidas Jayaram) is a college student, filled with righteousness. His elder brother Muthu (Sundeep Kishan) is rash and rage-filled. The eldest, Raayan (Dhanush) is the responsible one, and more like a father-figure. It's their love for their sister Durga (Dushara Vijayan) that's holding them all together, and as Raayan puts it, only seeing her wedded and with a child would truly make them a family. But even as he tries to get her wedded, due to circumstances, he finds himself caught up between a power struggle between Sethu (SJ Suryah) and Durai (Saravanan), two gangsters with a history between them, who control the locality. Meanwhile, there is also the new cop in town (Prakash Raj), who is silently stirring up things between them so that he can clean up the city in the eventual clash that would ensue. It is a credit to the strength of Dhanush's command over storytelling and the performances that Raayan manage to overcome its weakest aspect - predictability. Even if we realise at the back of our minds that given this particular premise, almost all the plot points that the film reaches are inevitable as the story moves towards its logical conclusion, we also can't help but wonder if Dhanush could have been a little more ambitious and chosen to take things to a different space, at least with some of them. This might not have come across as a noteworthy issue if this had been just another sophomore effort, but given the credentials of this filmmaker and actor, who has raised the bar quite high for himself, it feels a considerable one. That said, he doesn't try to coast on the drama that is inherent in this premise and makes an earnest effort to make this film look and feel different. The filmmaking is sure-footed, capturing the aggression lurking within the characters, both male and female, while his pacing keeps the narrative moving at clip that has us engrossed in the proceedings. He's also ably supported by his technical team. There's the dramatic
cinematography by Om Prakash, which gives the film its distinct mood, where danger might be lurking just beyond the frame. AR Rahman amplifies this tension with his score that captures the constant darkness and dread. And there's the film's beating heart - the relationship between the siblings. Dhanush ensures that we never forget that this is first and foremost an emotionally charged drama, so despite all the heroism and bloodshed that we see on screen (the filmmakers also deserve praise for going with the 'A' rating) , we care for how the events affect the bond between these brothers and their sister. That is his biggest success as a director.

Rekhachithram (2025)  Full Story

A man commits suicide after revealing his involvement in a crime. The investigation that follows brings out long-buried truths.Rekhachithram is a subtle and remarkably interlinked film that has been made with considerable research. It is an investigation story where a puzzle is put together from the very beginning, and it's a rewarding watch too. There are some gripes about the 'need' for certain scenes and elements, but, overall, Jofin T Chacko has delivered a solid film.Vivek Gopinath (Asif Ali), a police officer who is under suspension for playing online rummy while on duty. He is transferred to a remote station in Malakkappara as nothing is 'happening' there, as a form of punishment. However, as luck would have it, on the very same day, a man commits suicide in Malakkappara, confessing a crime he did along with a few acquaintances in his younger days through live video. The police find a skeleton from the spot, and the who and what of the murder forms the crux of the film. The film could have been just another investigation thriller, but the narrative choices set it apart. Interestingly, the identity of the victim is the one that's figured out and confirmed last in the film- an interesting placement. The second half is where the film takes the audience on a nostalgic ride. There is plenty of creative liberty taken by the writer, bringing in Kaathodu Kathoram elements into the film, creating an alternate history in a sense. As much as seeing a young Mammootty on screen is appreciated, a little less fanboyism would have helped to stick to the levity of the plot. The recreation of the sets in the 80s was done well. Interlinking the story with instances from old films has worked, too. At least it didn't feel out of place. Ramu Sunil, who is also the writer, and John Manthrickal have made a screenplay that's engaging and subtle enough.
However, the dialogues were a little off in some places. It is very rare for a Malayalam film to explore problematic relationships where people mutually equip each other's toxicity, even if it's just touched upon.Manoj K. Jayan and Zarin Shihab played their roles in a grounded and believable manner. Asif Ali has delivered a clean, subtle performance that suits the tone of the film. Anaswara Rajan, for once, has been utilised, and she gets the chance to use her acting prowess a little, even if the role is not a groundbreaking one. The lack of face-off dialogue between the protagonist and the antagonist makes it way better, especially because their silent face-offs have a much better impact and make them somewhat real. Asif Ali has once again delivered a watchable film.

The Family Star (2024) Full Review
Family Star, eagerly awaited and directed by Parasuram Petla, stars Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur. The film unfolds as a leisurely-paced family drama, underpinned by strong performances but marred by a lacklustre writing and narrative execution. The movie commences promisingly, establishing its characters well and endearing them to the audience. The central concept—that every generation harbours a star destined to alter the family's course—is intriguing. However, the story falters in execution, particularly post-interval, as the narrative plummets, diminishing its emotional appeal.Vijay Deverakonda excels as the relatable yet complex Govardhan, while Mrunal Thakur charms in both dramatic and light-hearted scenes, sharing notable chemistry with Deverakonda in the film's initial half. Although Parasuram extracts commendable performances, he struggles to weave these into a compelling, emotionally resonant narrative. The portrayal of Govardhan's familial conflict with his elder brother, lacks nuance and feels hurried. The depiction of the protagonists' life in the US, including the rapport between the lead pair, also leaves room for improvement. Supporting actors like Jagapathi Babu, Vasuki, Abhinaya, and Vennela Kishore contribute effectively within their roles, with Kishore providing comedic relief as Smarth. The film benefits from Gopi Sundar's music and KU Mohanan's cinematographer, both of which align well with its decent production values.Family Star, despite its promising setup and strong performances, ultimately falters due to its unengaging screenplay and lack of emotional depth in key relationships. While the lead actors deliver commendable performances, the film's narrative fails to maintain the momentum, particularly in the second half. Nevertheless, the movie showcases moments of humour and charm, alongside decent technical aspects. For fans of the cast and family dramas, it may offer some appeal, but others might find it lacking in the engaging storytelling expected of a cinematic experience.
